Delivering News At-Scale

We created a site to carry breaking news, features, analysis and citizen journalism for Voice of Democracy (VOD), a project of the Cambodian Center for Independent Media. With over 1 million views per month, vodhotnews.com is a vital voice in Cambodian democracy, advocating for transparency in human rights and justice issues from human trafficking to illegal logging, and speaking for accountability amongst public officials at all levels.

We designed a responsive front-end to give vodhotnews.com a fresh, clean, intuitive interface, accessible on both mobile and desktop, integrating the existing vodhotnews.com visual identity and brand to a design that balanced the need for advertising income with the need for users to be served well.

We developed the site using the latest in open source technologies, utilizing our experience in scaling infrastructure to support millions of website views. We also conducted training for VOD staff to enable them to use the site with minimal further technical support. We integrated analytics to help them track their content and their success in reaching their audience and ensured that their back-end user interface met the needs of their staff easily and well.
